Halloween Spooktacular

Halloween Spooktacular

Get into the Halloween spirit by joining us for this spooktacular celebration, NCNC-style. We’ll learn about and meet some creepy critters who remind us of All Hallows Eve (spiders, bats, snakes, & more). We’ll wrap up the evening beside a roaring campfire (whilst enjoying a roasted marshmallow or two!).

Costumes encouraged & welcome! Join us for Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, October 25
6:30 - 8:00 P.M.

Little Brown BAT

Throughout this October let's flap our wings for the Little Brown Bat, our honorary "Bird" of the month. But first we should clarify that the bat is not a bird, but actually the only true flying mammal on Earth! Myotis, the Little Brown Bat, Myotis lucifugus, is one of the most common species of bat in North America. Anyone lucky enough to see one swooping and diving through their backyard knows about the benefits this insectivore can bring. Capable of consuming 1,200 insects in a single night, just one bat can provide excellent pest control!

To learn more about Myotis lucifugus and other bats check out the Bird of the Month kiosk by the birds of prey exhibit!

Weekend Waddle

Thanksgiving Weekend Waddle

Grab the entire family (and any lingering holiday visitors too!) and stroll on down to the New Canaan Nature Center! Work off that holiday meal by joining the NCNC Naturalists for a healthy, invigorating Discovery Trail Trek. While “waddling” the trails, we’ll search for some of nature’s most treasured gifts (apple trees, maple trees & honey bees to name a few) and learn why the end of autumn may not be quite as quiet as you may think! In fact, autumn is a busy time of year for many wild animals such as deer, squirrels & birds!

Join us on Saturday, November 29
Hikes at 10:30 A.M., 11:30 A.M. & 1:00 P.M.

Mommy, Me & Nature

Mommy, Me & Nature

It's NEVER too early to get your child outside! Come explore the wonders of nature together with your little one at the Nature Center. You and your toddler (18-36 months) will sing songs, listen to stories and experience all the delights of nature in an unhurried atmosphere created by our Early Childhood teachers. Mommy, Me and Nature classes will be led by our beloved Judy Gilroy in our age appropriate Marsh Room.
