Your child, together with his/her class, has the opportunity to participate in "LINKS: A Program in Quality Integrated Education" developed and presented by New Canaan Nature Center. LINKS is funded by a generous grant from the CT State Board of Education. Program fees and transportation costs are covered by grant funds. All participating classes in your child's school have been paired with partner classes from a school in a different district. New Canaan, Weston and Wilton students are paired with Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport. During the course of the school year partner classes participate in five shared activities presented by the professional staff of the New Canaan Nature Center.

Fourth Grade Students will participate in:

  • A Group Challenges program hosted by participating schools in Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport in October.
  • A Predator/Prey program hosted by participating schools in New Canaan, Weston and Wilton in November.
  • A field trip to the New Canaan Nature Center in January/February for the Animal Adaptations & Animals Alive programs.
  • A field trip to the New Canaan Nature Center in April or May for the LINKS program.
  • A flexible 5th meeting following the theme of Adaptations & Habitats coordinated by the partner teachers.

Fifth Grade Students will participate in:

  • New Games & Endangered Species Assembly with Andrew Simmons Wildlife Programs and hosted by the New Canaan Nature Center in September and October.
  • A Wolf Video & Discussion presented at the partner schools in November & December followed by writing samples exchanged between partners.
  • A field trip to the New Canaan Nature Center in January for the Endangered Species program.
  • A field trip to Devil's Den in Weston in March and April for the Nature Center CSI program.

Partner class teachers may supplement these environmental education activities with other interactive experiences during the year.
