Membership Information

With the financial support of membership dues, private donations from individuals, foundations and corporations, the New Canaan Nature Center can improve its resources and services to the community and will:

• Enhance its assets as a "destination" by including more live animal exhibits, a children's natural playground, significant trail interpretation, exciting seasonal attractions, improved program space, and better parking.
  
  
• Restore and upgrade its natural habitats, gardens, buildings and collections. This includes refurbishing the old Bliss Greenhouse and Herb Cottage, constructing a children's garden with the natural playground, grooming 2 miles of interpretive trails, adding more gathering and seating areas, and dredging the ponds.
  
  
• Increase the number of students by 10% that will be served in our core programs through scholarships funds raised from individuals and businesses.
  
  
• Develop programming to serve middle and high school students whose interest is in natural science and horticulture, by adding field study opportunities including tree and plant identification, water quality, bird migration, volunteer work, and horticulture projects.
  
  
• Expand educational and scientific programs to encompass a more comprehensive offering of adult activities including a speaker series, art shows, additional horticulture studies and lectures, and natural science programming including bird identification, nature photography and field studies.
  
  
• Create new volunteer opportunities in special events, educational programs, visitors' services, the gift shop, and exhibit and trail interpretation.
  
  
• Build stronger, cooperative relationships with town social and volunteer organizations including but not limited to the Senior Center, Senior Men's Club, Newcomers, Outback Teen Center, Junior League, and Garden Clubs, for the growth and enhancement of program opportunities.
