Preschool Curriculum

New Canaan Nature Center Preschool

Our preschool curriculum uses the cycles and seasons of nature to enhance learning. Nature is the perfect venue to integrate math, science and literacy skills in to our everyday activities in a fun and supportive way. Preschool teachers use an engaging curriculum to introduce the four key elements of early childhood learning and development: cognitive, creative, social, emotional and physical. Below are some of the topics that children learn about and experience in the classroom or out on our grounds.

Fall: Cider making, the autumn harvest, animal habitats

Winter: Snow science, animal tracking & hibernation, syrup making

Spring & Summer: Honeybees, gardening, pond life, chickens & eggs

The New Canaan Nature Center's nature preserve is your child's classroom and playground. We believe children learn best through play and opportunities for meaningful, concrete experiences. Nature as the venue is the best the world can offer these young children, and these experiences in these early years will last a lifetime.
