Live Animal Collection

Birds of Prey
The New Canaan Nature Center Birds of Prey Exhibit features seven aviaries and is open to the public from dawn to dusk everyday. These animals cannot be released into the wild for a variety of reasons and are used in teaching programs. Learn more about our Birds of Prey.

Teaching Collection
Our teaching collection resides in the Animal Care Building which provides dedicated space for housing, feeding and caring for the Nature Center's teaching collection of injured or human-dependent live animals. Our teaching collection includes a wide variety of reptiles, mammals and birds. Learn more about our teaching collection.

Sponsor an Animal

You can help support the care of our live animal collection by participating in our Sponsor an Animal program. Your financial support funds the cost of medications, food and personal care, as well as proper housing and upkeep of the animal enclosures. Because each animal's needs are different, the cost of sponsorship varies. For information about animals which are currently available for sponsorship e-mail Melanie Pearson, Director of Animal Care or call (203)-966-9577 x 44 .
